Amazon sold out of all it’s Powermats on the day they went on sale, October 31st. However they tell us ore will be in stock very shortly, approx 3-5 days.

We advise you order one NOW from Amazon, as soon as they are in sotck they will send it out – chances are they might not show as ‘back in stock’ for some time, as they will send out all the new stock to people waiting for them.

Grear 4 - makers of PowerPad

Gear 4, the top makers of iphone/ipod accessories, have announced their latest product – PowerPad!

Powerpad is very much like the other wireless charging mat that launched last month, Powermat. However PowerPad is designed to work only with the Iphone – they claim this makes it work even better with the Iphone as it is specialised for the award winning phone.

The PowerPad goes on sale in early December – keep checking back here soon for more information on the PowerPad and the best place to buy it.

There are three main types of wireless charging..

Radio Charging

With radio charging, you can charge devices with small batteries and low power requirements.  This includes medical implants, hearing aids, wireless keyboards and small MP3 players. A transmitter is plugged into a plug socket, this generates the radio waves. A reciever is attatched to the device to be charged, the reciever picks up the signal and starts to charge the device.

Inductive Charging

Inductive charging is used to charge medium sized devices such as mobile phones, PDAs and larger MP3 players.
An adapter, with contact points, is connected to the device to be chargerd.  The device is then placed on a conductive charging pad. This charging pad is then plugged into a socket. The mat then sends the power to the adapter device via an electromagnetic field to charge the device.

Resonance Charging

Bigger devices, which require large amount of power use resonance charging. These devices include electric cars, vacuum cleaners, robots and large computers.  A copper coil is plugged into the plug socket, this is the transmitting device, and another coil is attached to the device as the receiving unit.

These are both tuned to the same electromagnetic frequency which transfer the energy from one to the other unit. This type of method is used for short distances, between 3-5 meters.

This type of charging does not suite devices sensative to electromagicetic fields.
